SUMMARY: The Weepah Hills were the site of the first gold discovery in 1902.
The discovery of high-grade gold ore in Weepah in 1927 sparked a frenzy that would go on to define a pivotal moment in Nevada's mining history. Dubbed "the last great mining boom of Nevada,"
As the first wave of prospectors arrived in the mining town, they abandoned their horses and wagons for a more modern mode of transportation - their cars.
Soon, all types of businesses were popping up, including saloons and hot dog stands,
It would be short lived, however. Two years later the Post Office closed, and most claims were bought up by a larger mining company. Which continued to mine until 1938.
